Flying a pegasus
A pegasus rides like a horse on the ground and flies when you ask it to.
A pegasus is a horse with wings. On the ground it is ridden exactly like any horse. In the air it flies wherever you steer it, at about 11.7 m/s, a third faster than a gallop.
Getting one. A pegasus comes in a Pegasus Figurine, which works like a Horse Figurine: double-click it to summon the pegasus, and select it and press H to put it back. Only the innkeepers of capital cities sell them, for 150,000 gold, in three colours. A slain dragon very rarely leaves one in its hoard.
- Take off. While riding, press Space. A pegasus never jumps: it takes off.
- Climb. Hold Space. It climbs at 6 m/s, up to 45 m above the ground below it.
- Hold height. Let go of both keys and it keeps its height. Steer with the movement keys and the mouse.
- Come down. Hold Left Shift. It descends at 7 m/s and lands when it reaches the ground.
- You cannot dismount in the air. Land first.
- A pegasus tires: after two minutes aloft it comes down on its own, whatever you ask, and must land before it flies again.
- Stunned or rooted, it sinks slowly to the ground.
- Over deep water it comes down onto the surface and swims like a horse.
