Voice chat
Talk with your microphone: to the players around you, or to your party, guild, council or nation wherever they are.
Voice chat is off until you turn it on in Options, under Voice chat. While it is off your microphone is never used and you hear no one's voice. You speak only while you hold a key: there is no open microphone.
| Hold | Who hears you |
|---|---|
| Z | Players around you who can see you, up to about 40 metres away |
| Ctrl+Z | Players around you who can see you, up to about 100 metres away |
| C | Your party, guild, guild council or nation, wherever they are: the one chosen in Options, or with /voice party, /voice guild, /voice council or /voice nation |
- A nearby voice comes from the speaker and fades with distance. Party, guild, council and nation voices sound the same wherever the speaker is.
- A green dot after a player's name means they are talking, and their mouth moves with their voice.
- You hear at most the six nearest players talking at once, and four at once on each of the other channels.
- A player you cannot see, such as one who is invisible to you, is never heard nearby.
- To stop hearing someone, open their player menu and choose Mute Voice; Unmute Voice brings them back. Blocking a player also silences their voice.
- The Voice chat window shows who in your party, guild, council and nation has voice chat on, who is talking, and a Mute button beside each name. Open it with /voice or by clicking the list of speakers on your screen. A name that turns green in your party frame or guild roster is a player talking.
- Options sets the volume of other players' voices, your microphone's volume and which microphone to use. Test microphone lets you hear yourself and sends nothing.
- Noise suppression in Options takes out steady noise such as fans and keyboards before anyone hears it, and Automatic microphone volume brings a quiet microphone up and a loud one down. Both are on unless you turn them off.
- Your microphone opens the first time you speak and closes after a minute of silence.
