How a city economy works
Citizens live in homes, eat from granaries, pay tax and work your buildings. The City tab shows it all.
Your city runs itself, once a minute, whether anyone is online or not. Open /buildmode and pick the City tab to see its state: population, housing, food, mood, treasury, stores and every building's output.
- Homes give citizens somewhere to live. See Housing and population.
- Granaries feed them. See Food, rations, ale and mood.
- Fed, housed citizens pay tax into the Heartwood's treasury, and the treasury pays upkeep. See Tax and upkeep.
- Citizens work your farms, mines, mills and workshops, which fill your stores. See Workers and workshops.
- Stores build your city and arm your armies. See Construction and upgrades and Recruiting soldiers.
Mood ties it together: a well-fed, well-housed city with variety and ale works faster, grows and pays more tax. A miserable one slows down and empties.
