Housing and population
No homes, no citizens. Better homes make happier citizens, and cost more to keep.
Citizens live in homes. Your population cannot grow past the housing you have built, and housing itself is capped by the Heartwood: 60 + 40 × Heartwood rank.
| Home | Citizens per rank | Comfort |
|---|---|---|
| Heartwood | 10 | — |
| Shack | 4 | −15 mood |
| Villa | 12 | +10 mood |
| Estate | 16 | +20 mood |
- The best homes fill first.
- Every home pays upkeep, occupied or not. A home whose upkeep is unpaid loses its comfort bonus.
- With food and a mood of 0 or better, the city grows by 1–4% of its housing each tick.
- Hunger never takes a city below 5 citizens; unrest can.
Villas and estates come in many looks: tall timber town houses, long rows, corner blocks and manors, each in whitewash, brick, weathered or cream-and-moss. Step through them with [ ] while placing. The look changes nothing but the building's appearance. These houses are furnished inside and every door opens: walk in, climb the stairs.
