Cameras and the mouse cursor
Two cameras, a mouse that steers until you need it, and how to click things in the world.
Two cameras
| Camera | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Over the shoulder ("FPS controls") | The default. The mouse steers, and the crosshair is where your swings, arrows and aimed spells go. |
| Top-down ("RTS controls") | A strategy view for building and commanding. The cursor is always shown, and you click the ground to place or order. |
Switch between them with Tilde. Build mode (Build mode: placing buildings) and army command mode (Commanding in the field) use the top-down camera, and leaving it with Tilde ends build mode.
The mouse cursor
While you play, the mouse steers your view and the cursor is hidden. Hold Alt to show the cursor and click anything on the HUD or in the world; release it to take control again. Whenever a window is open, the cursor stays visible until you close it.
With the cursor showing, left-click a player, creature, corpse or building to select it. In the over-the-shoulder camera you can also press E to select whatever is under the crosshair.
Zoom and rotate
- Scroll the Mouse Wheel to zoom in and out.
- In the top-down camera, hold Middle Mouse (or the Windows key) and move the mouse to rotate the view.
