The city armory
Give weapons and armour at your city's Barracks. They become points that equip its guards and soldiers, and the points are lost when those fall.
Gear never wears out, so a city uses it up. Any member of the guild that holds a player city can give weapons and armour at its Barracks: press F there, or type /armory beside it (the Inner Council's Interact opens building management instead). The Armory tab lists what in your bag it takes; Donate destroys the piece and adds its points to one of three pools.
- Melee: every weapon but bows, crossbows and thrown weapons. Ranged: those. Armour: armour and shields. Jewellery, tools, packs and everything else are refused.
- A piece is worth its value plus 120, 300, 700 or 1,200 for each minor, lesser, greater or masterwork enchantment, all divided by 50. Crafted or looted, it counts the same.
- Take a piece off before you give it. The City tab shows the three pools.
Kit grades
| Grade | Points a man (weapon + armour) | In battle | Wears |
|---|---|---|---|
| Levy | none | as before | their own clothes |
| Equipped | 5 + 5 | +10% | banded leather |
| Well-armed | 15 + 15 | +20% | chain mail |
| Elite | 40 + 40 | +30% | field plate |
A better-kitted army unit strikes harder and stands up to blows better in battle by its grade; guards and the soldiers you meet in the field also rise 5 levels and gain 8 Constitution a grade. Everyone sees the kit on them. It is never loot: a fallen guard or soldier keeps what he wore.
The guards
The Inner Council picks one kit grade for all of the city's guards on the City tab of /buildmode. Raising it pays the difference for every guard post from the melee and armour pools at once; lowering it refunds the difference. A guard who dies costs his replacement's kit again, and when the pools cannot pay, the grade drops.
The soldiers
On the Army tab, pick a kit before you recruit: each man takes his points from the melee pool (the ranged pool for archers) and the armour pool. A cancelled recruit gets them back, and a unit disbanded at home returns its survivors' kit. A dead soldier's kit is gone. See Recruiting soldiers.
